Knowing when to seek treatment for mental health disorders is important for parents and families. Many times, families, spouses, or friends are the first to suspect that their loved one is challenged by feelings, behaviors, and/or environmental conditions that cause them to act disruptive, rebellious, or sad.
This may include, but is not limited to, problems with relationships, friends and/or family members, work, school, sleeping, eating, substance abuse, emotional expression, development, coping, attentiveness, and responsiveness.It is important for families who suspect a problem in one, or more, of these areas to seek treatment as soon as possible. At Lakeland, we offer a number of resources to address a variety of mental health concerns:
Michigan Child Collaborative Care (MC3) Program: Pediatricians at Southwestern Medical Clinic, Stevensville, a Spectrum Health Lakeland Affiliate partner with the University of Michigan Health System Department of Psychiatry to diagnose and treat children with behavioral issues locally.
Psychiatric Inpatient Services: Individuals in a psychiatric crisis who are in urgent need of a safe, supportive environment and intensive therapeutic intervention may be admitted to the behavioral unit at Lakeland Medical Center, St. Joseph.
Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services: Local mental health care is available right here in St. Joseph. Spectrum Health Lakeland established a partnership with Pine Rest to provide patients access to mental health resources from their Grand Rapids facility. The new Psychiatry Consultation Clinic in St. Joseph offers medication management assessment and consultation then refer individuals back to their primary care provider for ongoing maintenance once medications have been stabilized.
Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services also contracts with Berrien, Cass, and Van Buren counties to accept patients from anywhere in Michigan who meet admission criteria. Additionally, most insurance plans, including commercial and Medicare, are now accepted.
Psychosocial Support for Cancer Patients: The psychosocial oncology program is devoted to helping cancer patients and their families navigate the cancer experience from the time of diagnosis, through treatment and recover, to the return to usual roles and lifestyle.
Southwestern Medical Clinic Counseling Services: Our caring mental health providers work with individuals, couples, families, adults, and children struggling with emotional, psychological and spiritual concerns
